If you’re in Missouri staring at a car with dents, rust, a cracked windshield, hail dings, or accident damage and wondering, “Can I still donate this?” the answer is yes. With Revive Ride, body damage does NOT disqualify your vehicle from donation. Whether you’re in Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, Columbia, Independence, Lee’s Summit, or out in the Ozarks, we can help you turn that problem car into real support for Heritage for the Blind.
Here’s how it works: Heritage for the Blind accepts cars in any cosmetic condition—scratched, dented, rusty, hail-damaged, or with broken glass. You do not need to fix anything first. We arrange free towing anywhere in Missouri, running or not. Your car is then sold, often through auction or a licensed buyer. The tax-deductible value is based on the actual sale price, not how pretty the car looks. If it sells for more than $500, you can generally deduct the sale amount using IRS Form 1098-C. If it sells for less, you’re still guaranteed a $500 tax receipt. Either way, your damaged vehicle helps fund vital services for people who are blind or visually impaired.
How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Tell us about your damaged Missouri vehicle
Go online or call Revive Ride and share the basics: year, make, model, location, and the type of body damage—hail dents, rust, cracked windshield, accident or storm damage. We don’t expect perfection; we just need an honest picture so we can match the right towing and sale method for your car anywhere in Missouri.
2. Schedule free towing anywhere in Missouri
Once you’re ready, we set up a free pickup that works with your schedule. Whether the car’s sitting in a driveway in St. Charles, a parking lot in Blue Springs, or a farm near Sedalia, our towing partner comes to you. Running, not running, or missing body panels—there’s no extra charge for the tow.
3. Sign over the title and hand off the keys
At pickup, you’ll sign the Missouri title over to complete the donation. If you have questions about filling out the back of the title or what to do if you’ve misplaced it, we’ll walk you through Missouri’s requirements. The tow driver will take the keys (if you have them) and handle the car from there.
4. Your damaged car is sold for the best possible value
Revive Ride works with Heritage for the Blind to sell your vehicle through auction or other licensed buyers who regularly handle damaged cars in any cosmetic condition. A car with major dents or rust may bring less, but our goal is always to find the highest realistic sale price for your particular vehicle and condition.
5. Receive your tax receipt and feel good about the impact
After the sale, you’ll receive a tax receipt. If the vehicle sells for more than $500, your deduction is generally the sale price and we’ll issue IRS Form 1098-C. If it sells for less, you’re still guaranteed a $500 receipt. Either way, your problem car helps Heritage for the Blind support people with vision loss.
Potential complications to watch for
Missing or incorrect Missouri title
Tip: Body damage is fine, but the title matters. If you don’t have your Missouri title, or the name on it has changed due to marriage, divorce, or inheritance, let us know before pickup. We’ll explain what the Missouri Department of Revenue may require so we can keep your donation from being delayed.
Severe structural or flood damage details
Tip: We can still accept vehicles with frame damage, prior total-loss history, or flood issues, but we need to know upfront. Tell us if the car was in a major accident, flooded along the Missouri or Mississippi River, or has a salvage/rebuilt brand so we can route it to the right buyer quickly.
Personal items left inside a non-drivable car
Tip: Damaged cars often sit for months and become extra storage. Before towing, clear out personal belongings, license plates if required, and any aftermarket items you want to keep. Tow drivers can’t be responsible for items left inside, and removing them ahead of time speeds up your pickup in Missouri.
Disputes about shared ownership
Tip: If more than one person is listed on the title, all titled owners generally need to sign off. This can slow things down if a co-owner moved out of state or you’re in the middle of a divorce. Confirm who’s on the title early so we can help you avoid last-minute surprises on pickup day.
